Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and won second place at the Prix de Rome with his sculpture Diomède enlevant le Palladium. His works won several awards at the World Exhibition in Paris and he was awarded the title of Officer of the Legion of Honor for his artistic work.

Today, his sculptures are coveted collector's items and his photographic portrait is kept in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
