Empress Maria Theresa asks the Hungarian Estates for support. Oil on canvas, 51 x 70 cm, framed, second half of the 19th century, Anonymous artist. After assuming the reign of Maria Theresa in Austria, she travelled to the Hungarian state parliament in Bratislava in 1741 to receive support from the Hungarian Estates in the fight against their opponents. According to legend, she presented the few months old Crown Prince Joseph in her arms weeping the assembled stalls. Stirred, the knightly Hungarian nobles vowed life and blood for our King Maria Theresa. (S-194). See less
