A Japanese Ikebana basket woven by bamboo artist Abe Motoshi (Japanese, b. 1942). Constructed with Madake bamboo and rattan with technique of open twinning and crossed variation of thousand-line, the basket features the Ayagake pattern, which are commonly seen in the garden fence. Made in 1980s Showa period, the basket is simple but refined in the signature style of Abe Motoshi's early work.
The basket is signed on the base. It comes with the original bamboo insert for ikebana, the tomobako with inscription of the title on the lid as well as the artist's name and seal. A white wrapping cloth with artist's name and seal is also present.
