Mathurin Moreau is a renowned French sculptor, brother of the no less famous Hippolyte and Auguste. It is renowned for its decorative sculptures and its representations of female grace and delicacy.
"The young girl with a broken jug" represents a young person sitting near a source, a cap in her hair, dressed in a long dress. His jug is broken.
Although showing an act of everyday life, that of seeking water at source, this work also carries a moralizing warning. Indeed, the broken jug is one of the well -known codes to evoke the loss of virginity. The distraught gaze, the legs tightened against each other, the arm against the belly, "the girl with a broken jug" then takes on a completely different meaning.
This Mathurin Moreau biscuit porcelain will seduce you with its imposing size, as well as by its beauty and finesse.
