The light and dark, cold and warm colors that give the magic of light present on this painting, as well as the meticulous brush strokes and the type of figures depicted, lead back to the style of Paul Bril, a Flemish painter who worked in Rome with great success from 1574. On the left side of the painting, sunset can still be glimpsed, while on the right side it is already night illuminated by moonlight. The lighting to which the painting is exposed greatly affects how the subject is perceived-the subject's appearance changes considerably. The canvas is stretched on an original frame, while the gilt frame, with which the painting is equipped, seems to have been made later. The measurements given in the picture sheet refer to the outer measurements of the frame, while the painting itself measures 72/96 cm. See less
