The location of Loran’s gold country studies are revealed by his use of reddish-orange representing the area’s clay which is rich in iron oxides. He worked near Malakoff Diggins, Nevada County.
Erle Loran was an experimental modernist. He taught art at the University of California, Berkeley and was associated with modernist Hans Hoffman. His work has been featured at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Listed askart, artprice, etc
