Biography of the artist


Georges L'évêque known as Gerles
Born in Béthune in 1919, he began to paint in 1942 guided by his drawing teacher Mr. Beaumont.
He learns the architecture of clothing in Paris to become a model maker and starts to frequent many painters. He became friends with André Lhote, Ossip Zadkine and Edouard Pignon, who encouraged him to exhibit in Béthune and Le Touquet, at the Grande Chaumière studio.
Very attached to his region, he regularly exhibited in renowned galleries such as the Septentrion Gallery in Bondues or the Mischkind Gallery in Lille.
He frequented the walls of famous artists from the North: Lhotellier, Hémery, Hennebelle, Dodeigne or Van Hecke.
Definitely back in 1968 in La Couture, he will not stop creating to leave us a rich and diversified work. This piece has an attribution mark,
