Erica Prudhomme learned some of the basics from her artist father and his brother, Charles and Paul Child. She studied at the Art Students’ League, and with Anna Walinska and Leigh Hyams. Erica Child Prudhomme work focuses on botanical studies and other details of nature during the annual cycle of earth around sun.
She has been captivated by the symmetry and grace of natural forms, both living and dying, by nature?s repetitive patterns (wood grains, fish scales, waves), and by seasonal changes. Her close portraits describe moments in time: spring and summer, when the energy of growth is almost electrical; autumn's fading light and brilliant leaves; and winter, akin to sleep when the world returns to its essential architecture. She worked as an architectural draftsman in Philadelphia, an exhibition designer at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and as an art teacher at West Side Montessori School. She has shown at the New Arts Gallery, Washington Arts Association, and Yale’s Sterling Library in CT; the Attleboro Arts Museum, the Berkshire Museum, the Geoffrey Young Gallery, the Norman Rockwell Museum and the Sheffield Museum in MA; and the Penobscot Marine Museum in ME.
