The bronze has a mark "Paris JB Deposee", the sculpture offered is a lifelike, energetic and robust representation. The artist depicts a fully grown resting wolf, not baring his teeth, striding in a natural setting with antelope at his feet. It is a beautifully detailed original bronze casting with very dark brown to olive green patina and some lighter undertones.
With the rise of a new wealthy middle class in Paris during the 19th and early 20th centuries, many artists were inspired to meet the needs of people who wanted to show their status through artwork, thus they created smaller more portable and decorative sculptures like this wolf. The artist captured the scene with a fantastic attention to detail, with this excellent looking patina.
