Rich saturated hues along with incredible depth, texture and movement, Ann masterfully creates a frame in motion. Using a layered build up of paint technique (up to 1/4" thick in some areas) the breaking waves against the rocky shoreline really come to life. A new frame could really modernise this amazing piece.
Ann Mittleman (1898-1972) began her artistic career as a a sculptor, studying with Robert Laurent. She soon turned to painting and has studied with Tschacbasov, Philip Evergood and Lewis Daniel. Extensive travel has taken her to all parts of the world, but New York has remained her home and most stimulated her work. She has had seven one-woman shows, beside a traveling museum show for 29 months. She has exhibited in many group shows, including the Whitney Museum, and in museums in Berlin, Germany and Tokyo. She has had her work in the lending service of the Museum of Modern Art, New York City.
