Antique 18th c. bronze portrait bust of Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) mounted on specimen marble pedestal base. Wonderful patina. Measures 7 1/2" tall x 3 1/4" wide across the shoulders. Minor small chips to the marble. Displays beautifully.
Rousseau was a Genevan philosopher, writer, and composer. His political philosophy influenced the progress of the Enlightenment throughout Europe and aspects of the French Revolution and the US Declaration of Independence. He is the architect of modern political, economic and educational thought.
