This two piece, 19th century, step back, cupboard is made from wide board pine. The wood has a warm, deep honey color with a nice finish. It is crowned with a wonderful scalloped top over 2 shelves; the lower shelf has cut outs for spoons. The shelves and the top of the base each have two plate grooves for displaying chargers and plates. The base, which is separate from the shelved unit, sits atop substantial ogee bracket feet, has a set of 5 drawers flanked by larger drawers at the top with two paneled doors underneath. Each paneled door opens to a two shelf storage space.
The drawers are nicely dovetailed, have beveled drawer bases and nice brass hardware. The paneled doors are attached with two rat tail hinges each.
Overall a lovely period country piece.
