On the Design: This piece uniquely depicts a Chinese folding screen pictorial pattern in the pseudo ‘field’ of this rare Oriental style. Connoisseurs may note these were traditionally called “pingfeng” — rarely seen in carpets while celebrated in other painterly art forms. This and its complementary floral patterns enjoys a forgiving green and blue atop the richest red — a regal, yet complementary symphony that lets the colors sit comfortably while the pattern speaks.
