"on the occasion of the biennale di venezia 2019, at palazzo mora, lorenzo maria monti presented the project “vitrum spatialis”, born from the observation of nasa images, made with the hubble telescope, of space. A world so far away and invisible to the naked eye but extremely fascinating that, since ancient times, has attracted and nourished the imagination and imagination of man.
through the use of murano crystal crucibles and light, the artist has found a way to bring that universe closer to us.
with the macro light painting technique he captures a point in the crucible, accurately focusing on every detail, scratch, bubble and with a long exposure shot he photographs it and playing, in those long seconds of opening of the diaphragm, with the lights. The effect obtained recalls both in its colours and in its depths the space with its solar storms, the planets and the unexplored galaxies. What is in the interest of the artist is that the image not only has an aesthetic impact, thanks to the choice of a very special method of printing on a methacrylate support that gives more depth and a feeling of three-di- mensionality, but also gives freedom to the imagination and interpretation of the observer. The intent is to stimulate reflection and enliven the experience of the one who lets himself be captured by colors and shapes. As we look at the photo, our brain re-elaborates the image according to our state of mind, the time of day and the sun’s rays that strike the press and every glance becomes a new experience in which the details suddenly appear, leaving us amazed.
