MATKA (Hindi, earthen pot)
Pecan wood, welded steel. Created 2022.
Inspired by Nature, the Elements and the Infinite Cosmos, the branch of a massive Texas Pecan tree becomes a very sensual, mysterious object via the Ancient Japanese technique of Yakisugi -- or Shou-sugi-ban, the repeated, deep charring of Wood with Fire. Layers of wood are removed to reveal what was always present.
Salvaged pecan sealed with Tried and True non-toxic Beeswax Finish. Measures approximately 17"H x 15"W x 12"D.
