The X-formed chair was copied from an ancient Roman form in almost every European country. Also known as a Savonarola, the chair is named for the Italian Renaissance religious zealot Girolamo Savonarola. Originally used as hall chairs, they were more for decoration than actual seating as is this console table, ideal in an entrance or hallway as a side table for plants or decorative vase. See less
