Antique Tabriz rugs are distinguished by their excellent weave and by their remarkable adherence to the classical traditions of Persian rug design. The city of Tabriz, situated in the Northwest region of Persia, was the earliest capital of the Safavid dynasty, and it can claim to have been a centre of carpet production longer than any other city in Persia. This Tabriz carpet has a very fine weave showing a hunting design that dates back to the 17th century, recreated in the 19th century.
