Purchased in Zambia in the 80's this basket and lid are in excellent vintage condition, except for some minor fraying in an area of the lid (see photos).
African baskets are beautiful but nonetheless also utilitarian, and as such, this one is well made and strong.. The weaving, with native grasses and reeds, is tight, making the basket strong and hard. It has two, in good condition, handles, and has a beehive shape.
The lid is topped off with a wooden knob. The knob is decorated with burn marks., and it is attached to the lid on the underside with a wooden peg. (see photos).
Handmade and well made it measures 20.5" high and has a diameter of 14" at the base.
