This painting is Giulio Di Sotto’s personal reinterpretation of the 19th century French painter Jules Frédéric Ballavoine’s masterpiece “Best Friends”. Here we see how in the nineteenth century the cat officially entered the world of affection: Victorian sentimentality places it in intimate and familiar scenes, the Impressionists like Ballavoine portray it in the arms of children and attractive ladies.
