moreUp for sale is this print by Jacob Lawrence from the Kent "Spirit of Independence" Bicentennial portfolio, published in 1975 by Lorillard. "The ’20’s... The Migrants Cast Their Ballots" shows Black people exercising the right to vote. It was created in the later period in Jacob Lawrence’s career, when he turned his attention to printmaking, while still continuing to depict the history of Black Americans who had migrated to the North in great numbers between the 1920s and the 1940s. The artist said, "To me, migration means movement. There was conflict and struggle. But out of the struggle came a kind of power and even beauty. 'And the migrants kept coming' is a refrain of triumph over adversity."
This glorious print is matted in a pH-neutral mat and framed in an Alabama Red wood moulding to an overall size of 18 1/2" x 22". It is in excellent condition, as pictured. less
