Presented here is a lovely example of John Steel’s best know subject matter—seascapes. This oil painting was created in February of 1955.
Color pallet ranges from emerald green to olive green with hints of Naples yellow and dark, near black, blues
John Steel (1921-1998), born in New York City in 1921, but was raised in France and Spain. John trained at the Art Students League in New York City as wells as the Art Center in California. He is best know for his box cover painted illustrations for plastic model kit companies Revell and Aurora.
John steel also did design work for serval Disney projects which included Matterhorn and Western Village. He also designed and drew the storyboards for movies Ben Hur, Spartacus and Mutiny on the Bounty.
