Niels Holbak was educated at the Art Academy in Copenhagen from 1912-1914 and was taught by Laurits Tuxen, among others. He worked as a painter in the summer to earn money for studies in the winter. Later, Niels Holbak became a teacher at the Technical School in Esbjerg, the city where he also spent most of his life.
The paintings of Niels Holbak are represented among others in the Ølgod Museum and are characterized by motifs from nature in beautiful colors.
