We used it over the bathroom mirror and it was glorious (we moved). You can use a high-wattage bulb in it, thanks to the porcelain socket and heat resistant wire.

The metal (solid brass) fitter is original to the glass, and it's been re-chromed. As you can see in one photo there's a split in the brass up at the top. This has zero impact on the functionality of piece or its structural integrity. Brass as old as this is sometimes suffers these kinds of "stress cracks."
