An exceptional late 19th-century French porcelain jardinière or centerpiece, richly decorated in the Louis XV / Rococo taste and mounted with an elaborate gilt-bronze framework.
The generously scaled porcelain body is finished in a striking vivid turquoise-blue ground and centered with finely painted polychrome floral bouquets set within white reserves. The painted decoration includes roses, tulips, grapes, blossoms, and foliage, all framed by intricate gilt scrollwork and ornamental borders that contrast beautifully against the saturated blue porcelain.
The vessel is surrounded by an unusually elaborate gilt-bronze mount featuring sweeping acanthus leaves, scrolling rocaille motifs, floral elements, pierced ornament, and dramatically curved handles. The upper gallery rises above the porcelain body in an architectural arrangement of deeply modeled foliage and scrollwork, while the substantial base is supported by broad, scrolling foliate feet with additional shell and acanthus detailing.
The reverse is equally well finished, with the bronze framework extending around the entire form rather than being limited to the front, giving the piece a highly sculptural appearance from every angle. The interior is glazed white and shows age-appropriate traces of use. The gilt-bronze mounts retain a warm antique patina with some expected variation and surface wear consistent with age.
At approximately 21.5 inches wide, 9.5 inches deep, and 15 inches high, this is a particularly impressive scale for a decorative porcelain jardinière and would work beautifully as a centerpiece on a console, commode, dining table, mantel, or pedestal.
The combination of brilliant turquoise porcelain, hand-painted floral reserves, lavish gilding, and heavily modeled bronze mounts gives the piece a distinctly luxurious Second Empire / Belle Époque character while drawing heavily from 18th-century French Rococo design.
