Plate has six compartments and a center one for lemons. The reverse is marked, Gien France. Dates between 1940-1960
These GIEN MAJOLICA OYSTER PLATES measure 9 inches in diameter .
Circa 1940’s. It has a very pretty olive green color .
Gien in Central France was founded in 1823 by Hall (owner of Creil & Montereau majolica).
Gien majolica was particularly appreciated by French aristocrats. This manufacture has adapted successfully different styles such as Rouen and Moustiers .
The most famous mark has ever been the Triple Tower (like these). Different models
of oyster plates were manufactured mainly from 1920's to 1950's
They are in very good condition, no cracks , no chips, no flakes, only some common age-related glaze crackling on some plates and marks made when baking the plates.
These beautiful plates would be a great addition to your Majolica collection or a luxurious way to serve oysters!
