A simple brass clasp is fitted to allow it to be secured.

The black lacquer chest is brightly painted with the central section painted with water lilies / lotus flowers, set within a frame of square scrolling patterns that were common as a motif during the Qing period. Additional pretty flowers and vases are painted on the outer section, adding to the wonderful palette of colours and tones against the black background.

Use today as a side table next to a sofa or bed, with plenty of storage space inside. See less
