Frankoma Pottery Company began as a hobby by a university professor and quickly turned into an Oklahoma institution. Founded in 1933, the pottery used tan clay from the Ada, OK area until 1953 when red clay from Sapulpa, OK was substituted.
This very rare 9-quart salad bowl (Item N5L) was manufactured during a short window of time, 1948-1949. These pieces must have sold out completely because they are not found in the 1950 catalog. The finish is called Desert Gold. Note the handmade shape (not a true round) and firing pattern, making each piece completely unique. This piece measures approx. 12.5" diameter x 11.5" x 7" tall.
This piece was acquired by seller's parents in the late 1940s, early 50s.
