Where to begin! If you like quality seating, then this is just about as fine as you will find anywhere. Firstly, the sofa itself, the frame is solid mahogany, that’s right mahogany, almost no one uses mahogany because to buy timbers thick enough to make a sofa costs a small fortune, just look at the size of the feet and you’ll gauge just how huge they are. The base is coil sprung, coil springs are hand tied eight times each, hessian padded supported and strapped, this is the traditional English method of making quality sofa bases going back hundreds of years. You usually sit directly on a coil base because it’s so comfortable but in this instance they have added feather filled cushions, not just any feather filled cushions but the base has split panel feather filled cushions with a foam core, what that means is you have a foam centre which has been fitted to a custom made to order bag that has a panel above and below for feathers, this keeps the cushion plump, means the feathers stay exactly where they should and offers simply put the finest level of comfort. In terms of restoration, we had a swatch of the leather sent to Italy for them to make an exact dye up, the sofa was then stripped back, hand dyed, it is in good but not perfect condition hence the price, there are some very light scuffs here and there, one corner on the back has been restored with leather filler, all pictured, I would say this is a near perfect sofa, something you might find in an ex display sale with a few little transport or test marks etc Dimensions Height:- 76cm from the floor to the top of the sofa frame, 85cm to the top of the cushion Width:- 247cm Depth:- 99cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
