This … Read more The main feature of this Turkish carpet from the city of Ushak is the wool that has been used. This is Mohair wool. Mohair is the textile fibre obtained from the hair of the Angora goat, whose name derives from the capital of Turkey - Ankara - where it has been present for over two thousand years. In addition to its lustre, the particular characteristic of mohair is the "nervousness", which makes it the most elastic and crease-resistant natural fibre; due to these characteristics, it is often mixed with less noble wools to create rugs with unmistakable lustre and softness. The decoration theme takes up the classic central medallion pattern: an octagon with a toothed wheel in the centre. The colours are natural and with shades ranging from orange to brown in the decorations, while the background is an ivory shade. See less
