The Irish leader Daniel O'Connell famously burst into tears at the finale and threw the book out of the window of the train in which he was traveling.
This is a beautiful 1963 copy of Charles Dicken's 'The Old Curiosity Shop,' presented in maroon leather with gilt titles, in original mylar and matching slip box, red edge gilt; in very good slipcase; 511 pages, purchased at The Old Curiosity Shop, with an introduction by Brimley Johnson, published and printed by Collins in Great Britain.
The book is in like-new condition, the mylar is chipping, and the box shows minor shelf wear.
Measures:

The Old Curiosity Shop is one of two novels (the other being Barnaby Rudge) which Charles Dickens published along with short stories in his weekly serial Master Humphrey's Clock, from 1840 to 1841.
The plot follows the life of Nell Trent and her grandfather, both residents of The Old Curiosity Shop in London.
Queen Victoria read the novel in 1841 and found it "very interesting and cleverly written."
The excitement surrounding the conclusion of the series was unprecedented; Dickens fans were reported to have stormed the piers in New York City, shouting to arriving sailors (who might have already read the final chapters in the United Kingdom), "Is Little Nell alive?" In 2007, many newspapers claimed that the excitement at the release of the last installment of The Old Curiosity Shop was the only historical comparison to the excitement of the final Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
'The Old Curiosity Shop' can be found at 13–14 Portsmouth Street, Holborn, London, WC2A 2ES, owned by the London School of Economics. The building dates back to the sixteenth century (1567)
The perfect holiday gift!
