This elegant antique Persian Feraghan Sarouk rug, woven around 1900, is a beautiful example of the transition between the classic Farahan weaving tradition and the refined floral designs that later became synonymous with Sarouk carpets. Measuring 4'3" × 7', it is in perfect condition, retaining a full, luxurious pile, crisp detail, and exceptional color.
The deep midnight navy field is richly adorned with an intricate allover floral design centered by graceful medallion motifs, surrounded by scrolling vines, flowering palmettes, and delicate botanical forms. The refined palette of soft ivory, coral, rose, light blue, sage green, and rich navy creates an elegant contrast and highlights the remarkable artistry of the weaving. The finely drawn floral border frames the composition beautifully, giving the rug exceptional balance and sophistication.
The weave is fine and even, reflecting the high standards of Feraghan Sarouk workshops at the turn of the twentieth century. The wool is soft, dense, and highly lustrous, giving the rug both durability and a luxurious texture.
One of the most desirable characteristics of this rug is its beautiful "tween" (abrash)—the subtle and natural variation in the navy field created by hand-dyeing the wool in small batches. Rather than being a flaw, this gentle tonal movement is a hallmark of authentic antique Persian rugs and is highly appreciated by collectors and knowledgeable buyers. The abrash adds warmth, depth, and character that cannot be reproduced in modern production, making every antique rug completely unique.
Its harmonious design, exceptional condition, and natural color variation make this rug equally suitable for a traditional setting or a sophisticated contemporary interior.
