Master of French sculpture in the 18th century, Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) made this composition for the Marquise de Pompadour.
This masterpiece is an allegorical subject depicting two winged lovers quarrelling to catch a fallen heart. The two cherubs in movement and full of life are realized with finesse.
The two cherubs seem focused on their mission. Their lowered eyes give them an ingenuous air that moves. The serious face surrounded by a flexible hair accompanied by curls, they seem determined. The chubby and naked bodies recall the joys and innocence of childhood. Pretty little wings, a bow, arrows and a garland of flowers perfectly illustrate the theme of love dear to the artist.
With its beautiful size, this sculpture in alabaster presented on a carved mahogany base, will charm you with the delicacy and purity of its lines.
