Elegant italian renaissance revival extendable dining table, manufactured by michele bonciani of cascina, tuscany, circa 1930s.
crafted in warm-toned walnut and walnut veneer, the table features a generously proportioned circular top bordered by a finely carved continuous decorative molding. The restrained ornamentation of the top is balanced by the strong architectural character of the central pedestal, producing a refined composition inspired by italian renaissance furniture.
the substantial pedestal base is formed by paneled vertical supports arranged around a cruciform structure. Molded profiles, shaped side brackets and small turned feet reinforce its historicist character, recalling traditional tuscan cabinetmaking and renaissance architectural motifs.
the circular top opens through its original extension mechanism, transforming the table into an oval dining surface measuring approximately 160 cm in length. The underside retains its traditional timber construction and metal runners, reflecting the quality and functionality of italian furniture production of the period.
the table bears the original michele bonciani maker’s label.
its sculptural pedestal, warm walnut finish and distinctive architectural profile give the table a particularly strong visual presence. It is a piece that immediately attracts the attention of interior designers and decorators, functioning equally well as an elegant dining table or as a statement piece in a spacious entrance hall, library or hospitality interior.
its versatility allows it to be successfully placed in both classical and contemporary settings, where the contrast between its renaissance revival detailing and modern architectural surroundings can be especially striking.
