The design dates from the … Read more A rare pair of lamps designed by Marianne Brandt for Gothaer Metallwarenfabrik, formerly Ruppel-Werke, Germany.

The design dates from the 1930s, while this particular pair was produced in the 1950s. They represent the continuation of Brandt's pioneering approach to modernist metal lighting, combining geometric form with contrasting materials and a restrained industrial aesthetic.

Each lamp features a compact, sculptural form combining chrome-plated metal, dark brown and black elements, and glass. At approximately 23 cm high, they are well suited to bedside tables, consoles, desks or smaller occasional spaces.

The pair retains the characteristic proportions and material combination associated with Brandt's work for Gothaer Metallwarenfabrik.

Both lamps have been rewired with new electrical components and have been professionally checked and confirmed to be in working order.

About Marianne Brandt
Marianne Brandt (1893–1983) was one of the most important designers associated with the Bauhaus, where she studied and later became head of the metal workshop.

Her work is characterised by geometric forms, precise construction and a sophisticated use of industrial materials. Her lighting and metal objects are among the most recognisable examples of early modernist design and are highly regarded by collectors today.

Her work for Ruppel-Werke and Gothaer Metallwarenfabrik forms an important part of her early industrial design output.
