description

originally designed in 1963 by jens møller-jensen, the albertslund (also known as orbiter) ceiling lamp is a refined example of mid-century danish industrial design, produced by louis poulsen.

this model features a white enamelled metal ceiling plate and round shade, complemented by a clear glass diffuser and a distinctive non-glare ring secured with three bolts. A characteristic “saturn ring” reflector encircles the shade, defining its instantly recognizable layered silhouette and providing soft, evenly distributed illumination.

the albertslund lamp was originally conceived for a residential development project in albertslund, denmark, and later evolved into a modular lighting series including wall, ceiling, pole, and pendant models. Produced in various finishes — white, grey, and silver — the design remains in production today in its outdoor form under the name albertslund maxi post. Earlier iterations were also marketed under names such as satellit, planet, and orbiter.

designer

jens møller-jensen (b. 1935, copenhagen) trained as a medical and technical instrument engineer in 1955 before graduating as an architect from the royal danish academy of fine arts (kadk) in 1964. After serving as head of the kadk workshop, he founded his own design studio in 1967. His work is distinguished by technical precision, clarity of form, and a strong functionalist approach — all qualities evident in the albertslund lighting series. This piece has an attribution mark,
