the lamp features a white enamelled metal shade and ceiling plate with a clear glass diffuser and the characteristic circular anti-glare reflector. The distinctive ring surrounding the shade gives the albertslund its recognisable layered, almost planetary appearance while helping to provide a soft and evenly distributed light.

originally developed for a residential project in albertslund, denmark, the design subsequently became a wider lighting series comprising ceiling, wall, pendant and pole-mounted versions. The design is particularly representative of the technical and functional approach associated with louis poulsen's danish lighting.

this 1980s example retains its original g24d-1 socket, a readily available fitting.

the original plastic g24d-1 socket is present. The lamp is fully functional. As with all vintage electrical equipment, professional inspection is recommended before use and rewiring should be considered where appropriate to meet current local electrical standards.

jens møller-jensen (b. 1935) trained initially as a medical and technical instrument engineer before studying architecture at the royal danish academy of fine arts, graduating in 1964.

his work is characterised by technical precision, functional clarity and restrained geometric forms. The albertslund series is an excellent expression of this approach, combining practical illumination with a highly distinctive architectural form.

the albertslund was developed as a modular lighting system and was produced in several configurations and finishes. Earlier examples and variants have also appeared under names including satellit, planet and orbiter.
