This is a rare set of 5 drawings concerning the Freemasons Lodge on the Schwindgasse number 8, in the 4th district of Vienna. The drawings were made in 1930 in the month of May by architect Robert Gerlach. The lodge opened on September 12, 1930. Upon the arrival of National Socialism, the Lodge was destroyed and its content. These are the only existing documents about the lodge .Today we find in this house, The Bulgarian Embassy. Robert Gerlach was born in 1887. He studied architecture with Professor Josef Hoffmann from 1906 to 1909, at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. Upon completion of his studies he worked as an Interior Architect, later he worked as a designer in the workshops of Hagenauer and Bramberger. From the middle of the 1920s he was a successful, self employed, architect, in Vienna. The 5th drawing in the set, floor plane 140 Sitze, you will find as a separate entry, due to lack of space. The drawings are done on Vellum and have a delicate quality. For there age they are in good condition. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
