Oil painting on Masonite by French Art Deco and modernist painter Jean Burkhalter. This artist is well known as one of the founders of the UAM (Union des Artistes Modernes, or Union of Modern Artists).
Some of his paintings were in the finest collections, such as that of Robert Mallet Stevens ("Mountain Landscape" and "Village View," Christie's sale 1000, Les Collections du Château de Gourdon, Paris, France, March 29-31, 2011).
This large, expressive modern painting depicts a party in a nightclub. People are having fun and dancing around a light that resembles the sun. It is worth noting that dance is a major theme in Burkhalter's work. Furthermore, this painting, full of movement and bright pop colors, is reminiscent of German and American figurative expressionist art, particularly that of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Emile Nolde.
Very good condition.
The work is signed on the back.
