One of the most important and influential designers of history, hans j. Wegner (1914-2007), is most often seen as the driving force of the danish mid-century modernist movement - an era that has changed the view of furniture forever.
wegner was born in 1914 in tønder in denmark as the son of a shoemaker. From 1928 to 1932 he was in training at the furniture manufacturer h. F. Stahlberg and stood at the age of 15 years ago his first chair. Then he studied from 1936 to 1938 under orla mølgaard-nielsen at the danish design academy before working as a designer in arne jacobsen and erik møller's renowned architectural firm. During this time, wegner also designed furniture for the town hall in åarhus and began his collaboration with the cabinetmaker johannes hansen and michael laursen. In 1940 he designed a rocking chair for laursen, who first wegner chair posed for mass production. His own studio opened wegner 1943 in gentofte.
wegner dominated masterfully merging modernism, craftsmanship and nordic functionality in combination with the surprising influence of chinese furniture design. Throughout his career, he designed more than 500 chairs. More than 100 of which went into production and a variety is one of the icons international furniture design; for example, the peacock chair (1947); wishbone chair (1949); the round chair (1949), the american magazine interiors called the ''most beautiful chair in the world'' and the 1961 broadcast ever in the first tv debate was inserted between the presidential candidate john f. Kennedy and richard nixon; the three-legged shell chair (1949), which was prepared for the historic competition for low-budget furniture moma; papa bear chair (1950); the flag halyard chair (1959); chair of dolphin (1951) and valet chair (1953); the ox chair (1960) and the wing chair (1960). His designs were simultaneously functional and elegant, its solid wooden chairs were, for example, often with curved and tapered elements that were associated with woven rattan or leather. Wegner took advantage of traditional manufacturing techniques and mixed materials such as plywood, metal, upholstery and paper braid.

Throughout his career, the designer worked with the most prestigious manufacturers together, such as ap stolen, carl hansen & søns, fredericia stolefabrik, getama, fritz hansen, erik jorgensen, louis poulsen, ry møbler pp møbler and andreas tuck.
wegner's furniture are located worldwide in the permanent collections of the best museums. He is also a winner of several prestigious awards such as the grand prix of the milan triennale in 1950, the price lunnung 1951, the eckersberg medal in 1955 and the 8th international design award 1997th
wegner died in 2007 at the age of 92 years in copenhagen, leaving future generations a remarkable legacy of design and craftsmanship. This piece has an attribution mark,

Orders where Free Local Pickup or Seller Managed Local Delivery were selected:
- Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
