The Mado sideboard is a kitchen cabinet from the 40s or 50s. It is a kitchen buffet that came into being in the 40s and was custom made on a spinning top with veneer panels for them. sides and fronts and solid pine for the uprights. The niche was dedicated to a mirror or to the TSF station. Renowned carpenters set out to create different models according to their needs and desires: location for the charcoal bucket, spice jars hidden behind a door, rolling pin or cutting shelf, clock, sometimes pantry or mini fridge, niche, bread hutch… All versions were possible.
Originally, the Mado sideboard was the creation of a cabinet maker who had embarked on the mass production of kitchen buffet. A design that was successful at the time, and which takes its name from ''Maison Dominique'' for Mado.
This kitchen cabinet made its first appearance in 1949, when we witness the boom of the ''modern domed'' with the two-part sideboard that is placed in the dining room. The Mado sideboard is a popular kitchen cabinet made of white wood.
At the same time, the Mado sideboard twin appears at Levitan: a slightly rougher model, the second in the family. This is where the Mado sideboard has its origins with the ''modern kitchen in white wood'' and the ''kitchen by element'' offered by its competitor under the Camera brand. Since then, the Mado sideboard has stood out from the crowd with the quality of the wood used, but above all with its label ''MADO - Deposited Model - French Manufacturing''. The Mado sideboard is a nice, rounded piece of furniture. Its retro shape typical of the 50s and its storage capacity is attractive.
The mado buffet is simply the diminutive of ''Maison Dominique''. This is a pre-formica pine kitchen buffet. It used to be a big purchase, which prompted the first loans as essential household equipment, like the dining table or the fridge.
It is important to note that a Mado sideboard is a piece of furniture of relative quality. It does not present noble wood, nor frills, except for a few rare more opulent models which present, for example, a part in zinc.
Fans of Mado furniture often cherish the spirit of the 1950s, but also the original color. Others prefer to give it a makeover with modern or trendy colors.
Mado sideboard: adopt a retro piece of furniture
Perfect for adding character to an interior, retro furniture offers the advantage of being unique.
This is exactly the case with the Mado sideboard from the 1940s / 1950s which was all the rage in period kitchens. At the end of the war, the Mado sideboard developed very quickly and the models were made to order. The Mado buffet represented the modern cuisine of the period.
