The name is given by the town of Kazakh, which is the main center of the region, where most probably these carpets were collected and sold. The ancient Kazaks are the work of semi-nomadic shepherds and knotted with the use of the horizontal frame. The warp and the weft are in wool. The fleece is made of rather high shaved wool. The wool used is soft, velvety and very resistant to wear. The knot is that of the tucous tradition. Every Kazak is a work of art, expression of an innate and profound sensibility of the weaver for colors and shapes. Our example coming from the Karabagh area dates back to the early 20th century and is part of the ''multiple medallions'' type: central field decorated with a series of polygons. Unusual is the churn border to be interpreted as a stylization of the tree of life. The colors are lively but matched with great chromatic sensitivity. See less
