Ellie has been working in the forests of the UK for the past seven years, producing work which explores the complex interrelationship between the landscape and the individual.

In Stars, Davies takes as her starting point her desire to arrive at a balanced relationship between the wild places of her youth and an increased sense of being disconnected with the natural world.

Often when we witness the vast spaces of the natural world we might gaze through binoculars or telescopes, feeling a sense of awe and wonder. But the landscape can quickly become another object to be viewed and so this separation arises between person and nature.

In Stars, we can appreciate the fragility of our relationship with the natural world. Each image created links the forest landscape with the greatest unknown of all, the universe. Through this, Davies brings to light a profound and electrifying contrast between the luscious physicality of the forest and its inherent otherness.
