In Fires 6 a small fire glows orange in the middle of this woodland clearing. Davies captures the mystery and intrigue of the ancient English woodland this is the New Forest.

Ellie has been working in the forests of the UK for the past seven years, producing work which explores the complex interrelationship between the landscape and the individual.

Fire. Not only is it the thread that unites humanity, but it is equally one of the few continuities linking man to the earliest times of habitation in Britain's woodlands and forests. Its profoundly symbolic narratives span the human and natural world, bringing together opposing themes of life and death, creation and destruction, love and loss, nature and culture.

Placing these small fires in the midst of these forest clearings, Davies casts the forest in a warm light, holding back the dark and mysterious forces. The gentle orange hues imbue the scene with a sense of safety and comfort, which alters the very nature of the forest itself.
