The table combines richly figured rosewood, remarkable craftsmanship, and a highly distinctive folding design.

Sculptural V-shaped legs swing outward to support the leaves, with a discreet locking mechanism that keeps them firmly in place when expanded. Interlocking hinges are integrated directly into the tabletop, creating a rhythmic pattern across its elliptical surface. In its expanded form it accommodates up to eight guests.

A rare, heirloom-quality piece in beautifully restored condition. It has been fully refinished and shows only minor traces of its six-decade history. Although the design is sometimes attributed to Kurt Østervig, Danish auction records provide strong support for its attribution to Niels Koefoed. See less
