Although produced in Spain, its simple geometric construction, expressive features and combination of natural materials strongly evoke the Scandinavian design tradition of the period.
The Viking is beautifully assembled from different types of wood, creating a rich contrast of natural tones and textures. He has a wonderfully expressive black beard, a striking brass helmet with curved horns, and a large hammered metal shield with a central geometric detail. His long dark spear completes the character and gives the piece a particularly graphic, sculptural quality.
Danish wooden toys from the 1950s and 1960s are celebrated for transforming traditional children's toys into small pieces of functional sculpture, combining craftsmanship, natural materials, simplified forms and playful personalities. This Viking reflects that same mid-century Scandinavian philosophy, making it equally appealing as a vintage toy or decorative design object.
The piece remains in original vintage condition, with natural signs of age and use. There is a small crack in one of the wooden hands, consistent with its age.
A distinctive 1960s vintage Viking figure, perfect for collectors of Scandinavian-inspired design, wooden toys and mid-century decor.
