This iconic pair represents one of the most recognizable and refined compositions within Sarfatti’s celebrated globe series. Model 238 was conceived as a modular concept, produced in numerous variations, dimensions and configurations. The 238/1 version, with its single arm and medium sized globes, perfectly expresses Sarfatti’s fascination with geometry, light diffusion and technical clarity. Each lamp features a black lacquered metal frame that elegantly encircles the transparent glass sphere along its equator. The horizontal ring visually divides the globe while simultaneously acting as a structural element, creating a subtle tension between weightlessness and precision. The semi-transparent globes produce a warm, atmospheric glow, with the visible filament softly diffused through the curved glass surface. The single arm construction provides depth and a sculptural presence against the wall, making the lamps equally compelling when installed individually or as a mirrored pair. This set remains in fantastic original condition, showing only minimal signs of age and light use. The frames retain their deep black lacquer finish and the glass globes are beautifully preserved. Both lamps are marked with the original Arteluce sticker on the upper part of the frame, confirming their authenticity. Each fixture accommodates two E27 bulbs up to 60 watts per socket. Model 238 is extensively documented in the authoritative monograph Gino Sarfatti 1938–1973 Selected Works, illustrated on page 414, underscoring its historical significance within Sarfatti’s oeuvre. Produced during a period when Arteluce was at the forefront of international lighting innovation, this design stands as a testament to Sarfatti’s ability to combine engineering intelligence with poetic simplicity. All our lighting is carefully inspected, cleaned and prepared for use, and is suitable for the United States electrical standard. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
