About The Setting:
The ring is a wide shield that covers the finger more like a small piece of armour than a band. That’s how Gage thinks about rings: as sculpture first.
The white gold field has a hand-engraved cross-hatch (a Florentine-style finish). Its matte shimmer is there to make the polished yellow gold and the diamonds stand out.
The yellow gold isn’t trim. It’s modeled into scrolls that wrap the edges, break past the outline of the shield, and end in applied gold beads at the lower right. Her “sculpted gold” signature is exactly this: gold as part of the structure, not decoration.
About Elizabeth Gage:
Elizabeth Gage (born 1937) is among the most celebrated British jewelers of the past half century, founding her London house in 1964 after studying at the Chelsea School of Art and the Central School of Art and Design. Her Agincourt ring, first made in 1967, won the De Beers Diamonds International Award in 1972 and is held today by the Victoria and Albert Museum. Working apart from seasonal fashion, she draws on antiquity and the Renaissance to create sculptural, heavily worked gold jewels made to last for generations. In 2017 she was appointed MBE for services to jewelry design and the arts.
