Michael Kifer Sculptural Postmodern Abstract Teapot Ceramic Art Sculpture Signed – 13.5"
Measurements: 9"T x 13.5"W x 2.75"D (22.86cm x 34.29cm x 6.99cm)
Markings: Kifer
Weight: 2.5 Lbs.
An extraordinary example of contemporary American studio ceramics by acclaimed artist Michael Kifer, whose distinctive work celebrates bold color, unconventional forms, and the expressive possibilities of clay.
This magnificent sculptural teapot transforms an everyday domestic object into a wonderfully imaginative work of abstract art.
Measuring an impressive 13.5 inches wide, the extraordinary asymmetrical form features a dramatically tilted, angular body, embellished with Kifer's signature painterly composition of brilliant golden ochre, turquoise blue, violet, coral, crimson, and vibrant green.
Sweeping gestural brushstrokes, abstract circular motifs, geometric patterns, and spontaneous linear markings create an exuberant composition that flows continuously across the ceramic surface.
The sculptural elements are equally remarkable.
An elongated, curved spout projects dramatically from one side, its deeply incised segments highlighted with metallic-looking bronze, gold, and blue finishes. On the opposite side, an extraordinary hand-formed ceramic handle twists and folds into an elaborate three-dimensional composition, incorporating carved surface details and richly contrasting metallic patinas.
Crowning the sharply angled body is an extraordinary, permanently attached sculptural element featuring intricate black-and-silver texturing and a colorful circular accent. Rather than a removable lid, this integrated architectural feature forms part of the artist's imaginative composition.
Created as a decorative ceramic sculpture in the form of a teapot, this remarkable work transforms a familiar household object into an expressive exploration of color, texture, and unconventional design. Not intended for functional use.
The interplay of glossy, painterly surfaces against the intricately textured sculptural details gives this remarkable ceramic artwork exceptional depth, dimension, and visual movement.
Far more than an ordinary teapot, this is a remarkable expression of ceramic sculpture, where function becomes secondary to artistic imagination.
A wonderful statement piece for collectors of American studio ceramics, Postmodern design, Memphis-inspired decorative art, and contemporary abstract sculpture.
