An expertly restored mahogany sideboard or buffet with brass hardware and sabots by Paul Frankl, produced by Brown Saltman in Southern California in the late 1940s.
The piece features a scalloped face with a pair of cabinets flanking a central column of drawers. A trio of iconic X-shaped pulls makes the design instantly recognizable.
At 38 inches tall, it stands significantly higher than the lower-profile sideboards that became typical in the ensuing decades of mid-century modernism. Sharply tapered legs further emphasize its light, elegant proportions.
The piece has been fully refinished inside and out, with subtle signs of its eight-decade history remaining. The mahogany retains its natural chatoyance and rich chestnut tone, which pairs beautifully with the newly polished brass. The drawers glide smoothly, while the original cabinet catches remain intact and function as designed.
A beautifully preserved example of one of Frankl’s most iconic designs.
