Each leg follows a baluster profile cut into flat facets and broken by squared collars, so light catches the planes from every angle. Just above the feet, the legs thicken into square blocks that take six plain rectangular stretchers, which form a hexagon close to the floor. The pale oak shows a pronounced, open grain.

The padded seat follows the hexagon with softened corners. Its top is worked in needlework: rows of yellow-green squares and green chevrons on a cream ground, divided by pale blue stripes and edged with a twisted cord trim. The sides are covered in a sage-green fabric with a velvet-like pile, finished with a row of dome-headed nails.

The pale, faceted oak suits rustic and Scandinavian interiors. The striped greens of the seat add a note of colour in eclectic rooms or alongside antiques. See less
