An ancient Japanese pottery technique dating back to the 700s, this rustic ware focuses on the imperfect, natural beauty of the piece and is known for its coarse texture and imperfect appearance. When it began centuries ago, it was used to make clay roof tiles but has since moved to a technique used for tea ware, large storage pots and their figurines, such as racoons.
This dobin would have originally had a handle attached at the top and is in very nice condition with no cracks or big chips found. The edges are also in great condition for its age, showing only minor wear. It measures 7"x 5.25" and comes from a non-smoking home.
